Termite Inspections
We carry out termite inspections; also referred to as pest inspections. The pest inspection is a thorough visual inspection of the residential or commercial structure to determine whether there are active termites on site or if there are termite workings or damage which would indicate that there has previously been termites.
Termite Inspections are a must!
If there is no termite management system installed or if the current system is deemed to be inadequate our Termite Manager will recommend and advise on the best suited termite management system. All the above will be documented in an electronic report with pictures supporting the findings. The pest inspection report will also include any conditions in and around the property that are conducive to termite attack as well as recommendations to reduce termite pressure on the building. The termite inspection report will advise how frequently the termite inspections should be carried out; generally this would be annually, however certain factors like construction design, surrounding environmental pressures and conducive conditions can influence the need for more regular inspections.
Regular termite inspections are a necessity in protecting timbers from termite attack! The Australian subterranean termites, also known as white ants are the most destructive termites in the world. Termites attack your home when a nest matures near you. No property is safe from termites, your home provides the termites with a food source and natural shelter. Concrete slabs are not full-proof as termites can gain access through cracks in the slab or the termites build mud tunnels to gain access to above ground timbers. Termites remain hidden in timbers which make them very difficult to notice; they excavate the timber and can cause extensive damage before you realise they are there. Termites are rife in Queensland and statistically one in three buildings are at risk of termite attack.
- Visual inspection complemented, if required, with the use of a Thermal Imaging Camera and/or a Termatrac T3i, this is a multi-function device with:
- Motion Detection Radar – using an ultrasonic radar this can accurately detect termites through most building materials
- Moisture Sensor – accurately records the concentrated presence of moisture identifying high risk areas
- Thermal Sensor – accurately detects the heat generated by termites within building structures
- Tapping of skirting boards & door jambs
- Inspect roof voids
- Inspect garden areas
Below is a listing of a few maintenance tips/advice to help protect your home against termites;
- ensure the edge of your concrete slab is always exposed and not covered by soil or vegetation or pathways so as not to allow for concealed entry by termites
- ensure all overflow pipes from hot water services and aircon units are directed into drains
- ensure any leaks and poor drainage is repaired
- remove or re-arrange unnecessary debris/materials against buildings or fences and any stored timber in direct contact with soil
- improve poor ventilation
Adhering to the above measures can reduce conditions conducive to termite attack and help minimise the risk of termite infestation.
